REDFORD ROAD - EDINBURGH

Redford Road Care Home is for 90 residents. Our layout consists of 9 flats of 10 residents, each with their own dining area and kitchenette and sitting room. Each flat of ten has its own front door. The scheme is designed to be dementia friendly and intends to be awarded to gold certification from University of Stirling Dementia Services Development Centre.

The three wings of thirty rooms are arranged radiating around a central courtyard. This ‘public square’ allows essential natural daylight (the majority of residents in long term care are vitamin D deficient) to percolate into the centre of the building, as well as providing a useful orientation tool for residents and staff.
