The Iris Murdoch Building was designed to house the Dementia Services Development Centre on the campus of the University of Stirling. Built at a cost of £1.5m it was completed in March 2002. The building contains both open plan and cellular office space, some residential accommodation for visiting academics and sub-divisible seminar space able to be configured to suit various types of presentation and meeting. The building set out to demonstrate principles of design for dementia in public buildings and is used extensively for seminars and presentations on this theme. It sets out to minimise confusion, maximise transparency and aid orientation. The teaching space opens out into a terrace designed as a dementia friendly garden by Annie Pollock of Arterre Landscape Architects. |
